From a Safe Schools Coalition Australia spokesperson:
Safe Schools Coalition Australia (SSCA) would like to formally acknowledge that Safe Schools Coalition Victoria (SSCV) at La Trobe University is now fully funded by the Victorian Government. SSCV will no longer receive funding through the Commonwealth Government contract with the Foundation for Young Australians.
SSCA and the Foundation for Young Australians would like to acknowledge the considerable contribution of SSCV in developing and pioneering this work since 2010. The national program, convened by the Foundation for Young Australians from 2014 has been modelled on the success and effectiveness of SSCV. SSCV has provided ongoing support for the rollout of the initiative nationally, including producing resources and training other state and territory partner teams. They have been generous and dedicated members of the national coalition.
We look forward to continuing a positive relationship with SSCV and La Trobe University, sharing our experiences and insights in our work to support schools. We share a joint commitment to supporting same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families to feel safe and happy at school. The achievements of the Coalition have been made possible through the unique contribution of many expert organisations and individuals across the country. We will build on the strength of a national network of partners and organisations who share expertise and experience and learning from good practice across different states and territories. With Australian Government funding, we will continue to work towards the long term goal of sustainable change in Australian schools - every young person deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive school environment.
