There has been a lot of talk about the Safe Schools Coalition Australia (SSCA) and our resources in this week. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of misinformation.
The national program resources do not include posters related to uniforms or include role play activities. Nor do our resources discuss sex education.
The Safe Schools Coalition Victoria is funded by the state government and is run independently of the national program.
SSCA has developed one resource, available here, with regard to supporting gender diverse young people, that is targeted at teachers that's suggest school may choose to consider uniforms as part of a support plan. This is not a direction to schools and decisions about what changes may be made are entirely up to the school in consultation with the young person and the parents.
All of Us is the only in classroom resource, and is available here. It has been deemed age-appropriate, educationally sound and has been reviewed by an expert panel of educators for use in secondary schools.
Our resources are designed to help schools to create an inclusive and safe learning environment, so all students can participate and engage with their studies and school activities to the best of their abilities.
Our role is to support schools to make decisions about how they can best supporting LGBTI young people and their needs, our resources do not provide directives to teachers.
SSCA will continue to support teachers and schools who were asking for assistance to creative an inclusive environment for LGBTI students and families.
