Since it was first federally funded in 2014 the SSCA program has been rolled out nationally to set a baseline of understanding about the matters impacting on LGBTI students to aid school management and teachers' guidance, and the entire school community.

Data shows that LGBTI young people experience high levels of bullying and abuse, and this has an effect on their educational outcomes.

What we know is that if we can work to reduce bullying and abuse LGBTI young people have a better chance of succeeding at school and have better mental health outcomes.

Edmund Rice Education Australia's decision to provide a program for educators to help create safer, more inclusive environments for LGBTI students and their families acknowledges the need for targeted support in this space.
